Whey Protein

Not magic — just a convenient, high-quality way to hit a protein target you'd otherwise miss.

EVIDENCE
Strong
TYPICAL DOSE
20–40 g per serving, to reach a daily total of roughly 1.6–2.2 g of protein per kg of bodyweight
TIMING
Whenever it helps you hit your total — post-workout is fine but not required. The old anabolic-window urgency has been overstated.
WHAT IT IS

A fast-digesting milk protein with a complete amino-acid profile and plenty of leucine, the amino acid that flips on muscle-protein synthesis.

WHY (OR WHY NOT)

Total daily protein drives recovery and muscle retention; a shake is simply the easiest way to close the gap when whole food isn't practical. It has no special property that food doesn't — if you already hit your protein from meals, you don't need it.

CAUTIONS
  • !Contains lactose — choose a whey isolate or a plant protein if dairy doesn't sit well.
  • !A supplement to food, not a replacement for it; whole meals bring fibre and micronutrients a powder doesn't.

Note:General information, not medical advice. Supplements interact with medications and conditions — check with your doctor before starting anything, especially if you're pregnant, nursing or managing a health condition.
