Probiotics
Live cultures for gut and immune health — strain-specific and individual, so results vary a lot.
Live beneficial bacteria supplied to support the gut microbiome, sold as capsules, powders or in fermented foods.
Evidence is decent for specific strains and specific problems (antibiotic-related upset, some digestive issues) and for general immune support, but it's very strain-dependent — a benefit for one strain doesn't transfer to another. Fermented foods are a good, cheaper route.
- !Effects are individual — give a given product several weeks and judge honestly.
- !Yogurt, kefir, kimchi and other fermented foods deliver similar benefits.
