L-Carnitine
Sold as a fat-burner — the fat-loss claims don't hold up, though there's mild interest in recovery.
A compound that shuttles fatty acids into cells to be burned for energy. The logic behind the fat-burner marketing — which the human evidence doesn't support.
Despite the theory, oral L-carnitine has little to no meaningful effect on fat loss in healthy people; muscle stores are hard to raise through supplements. There's some weak, emerging interest in reduced muscle damage and recovery, but that's not why it's usually sold.
- !The 'fat burner' framing is not supported — don't buy it for weight loss.
- !High doses can cause GI upset and a fishy odour.
