Green Tea Extract (EGCG)

A mild metabolism nudge from tea catechins — the effect is small, and mostly rides on the caffeine.

EVIDENCE
Limited
TYPICAL DOSE
Standardised to ~400–500 mg EGCG daily
TIMING
With food; earlier in the day if it contains caffeine.
WHAT IT IS

A concentrated source of catechins (notably EGCG) and usually some caffeine, sold for fat metabolism.

WHY (OR WHY NOT)

A small, real but modest effect on fat oxidation and metabolic rate, much of which comes from the caffeine content. Not a fat-loss solution — a minor helper at best, on top of a deficit.

CAUTIONS
  • !High-dose extracts have rare links to liver stress — don't megadose, and take with food.
  • !Just drinking green tea is a safe, pleasant alternative.
