Glutamine
An amino acid your body already makes plenty of — little benefit for muscle in healthy, well-fed trainees.
The most abundant amino acid in the body, involved in immune and gut function. Once heavily marketed for recovery and muscle.
For a healthy person eating enough protein, supplemental glutamine does very little for muscle or performance — you make and eat plenty already. There's a narrow case in clinical settings and possibly for gut symptoms, but that's not the gym use it's sold for.
- !Don't expect recovery or muscle benefits — the evidence for those isn't there.
- !Money is better spent on total protein.
Note:General information, not medical advice. Supplements interact with medications and conditions — check with your doctor before starting anything, especially if you're pregnant, nursing or managing a health condition.
